Wildlife of the Nevada Bombing Ranges
by Justin James KingWildlife of the Nevada Bombing Ranges #1 is an introduction to the diverse biological communities inhabiting naval bombing ranges within the remote and sparsely populated deserts of Central and Eastern Nevada.
Pulling from field research conducted by the Department of Defense, animal documentation from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and his own observations, King initiates an exploration of this ecologically and politically complex landscape.
King characterizes the region as a striking juxtaposition where avian species navigate airspace punctuated by supersonic aircraft, native flora colonize terrain marked by ordnance impact, and wildlife persists in proximity to ongoing weapons-testing and simulated warfare.
The work invites broader reflection on the resilience of ecosystems subjected to anthropogenic disturbance and the species that live in and around these conflict-modified environments.
