Ring Mountain Hallucinations

by Justin James King

Ring Mountain Hallucinations is a small collection of images that King created over several years from walks on Ring Mountain in Marin County, California. The inspiration for the project emerged from King’s research into the area’s complex history.

To him, Ring Mountain exemplifies how the meaning and identity of a place are never fixed but constantly

changing and evolving. These shifts are shaped by layers of influence—associative memories, historical context, personal experience, and even emotional states.

Through this work, King explores the idea of place not as something static but as a fluid, internal experience—one that endlessly reconfigures itself in the mind.
